Whether you’re lighting a concert, theatre show or high school play, the quality of your spotlights is key to delivering a great show. Follow spots are a powerful and versatile tool that help to highlight and draw attention to specific actors on stage. They allow the operator to control iris size, color (using internal drop in gels) and pan and tilt.

The Chauvet LED Follow Spot 75ST uses a bright white LED for a hardedge, focused beam and includes an easy to set up and tear down tripod. Its fast electronic strobe delivers silent operation with no moving parts and super smooth LED dimming simplifies professional fading. DMX mode and on board controls make this follow spot a perfect choice for your next theatrical production. This LED spot also features a single gobo slot for projecting crisp patterns on any surface.

Color Change

Follow spot lights are used to highlight a specific actor or presenter with a beam of light. They have a range of mechanisms that allow the operator to control the size of the circle (iris), color through use of internal gels, and shutter open/close. The spotting process is typically called on by the stage manager with specific cue sheets which specify exactly what the follow spot should do.

Chauvet’s LED followspots are much lighter, cooler, and more flexible than traditional incandescent counterparts. They’re easy to set up and operate, with mechanical lens controls for a tight, crisp beam. They also feature a wide selection of colors and an onboard strobe effect, all with the click of a button.

Unlike traditional ERS fixtures that are non-dimmable, our followspots come with a built in chopper that closes a gate of opposite shutters on top and bottom of the fixture. This allows the operator to shut off the light completely or to create a soft edge by opening up the shutters. They’re also built to be upgradeable, with DMX integration that makes it possible to control all the features of the fixture from the main board.

Dimming

Our follow spot lights feature a variety of dimming capabilities. Whether you want to change the speed of the strobe or the color changing functions you can do it all from the remote. You can also select the light mode (auto, manual, master/slave) from the remote.

The fixture also offers a variety of dimming curves that provide smooth and controlled fades without any fading artifacts.

Pan & Tilt

Follow spot lights are large, powerful spotlights that can be manually operated to track performers’ movements during a live performance. They can also be used to illuminate certain areas of the stage or highlight a particular element of the set. The spotlight’s beam of light can be shaped and adjusted by using different lenses, and the intensity of the light can be increased or decreased.

A follow spot can be controlled via a traditional mouse console or a control surface such as the Robospot controller or LightMaster. However, most modern fixtures include a “followspot mode” that disables the built-in motors and allows the operator to position the fixture manually. This feature is particularly useful for larger productions where several operators are tracking actors or presenters.

In addition to the usual pan and tilt capabilities, some follow spots are equipped with mechanisms that allow them to be tilted vertically or horizontally. They can also be rotated in order to provide a different lighting angle for the actors they are following. This is often necessary to keep the spotlight centered on the actor while they are moving across the stage.

Another feature of some follow spot lights is the ability to add effects such as scrollers or Seachangers, which increase the number of parameters that the spot must manage. This can make it more challenging for the operator to get the data right and can be frustrating if they have to go back and edit a cue that was initially recorded incorrectly. City Theatrical offers a range of yokes designed to turn your traditional theatre-style ERS instrument into a dimmable follow spot.
